A kidnapped man, identified only as Mr. Segiru, has regained his freedom nearly two months after being abducted in Edo State.
Segiru and his wife, Mrs. Zainab, were reportedly kidnapped on November 22, 2025, in Aviele community, near Auchi, within Etsako West Local Government Area.

A video circulating on social media showed Segiru being released on Wednesday. In the footage, he appeared lively and was surrounded by individuals believed to be his relatives and friends.
Pointing to his clothes in the video, Segiru remarked, “This is my dress, it’s a white jalabia, it’s white, but it has turned black,” seemingly alluding to the hardship he endured during captivity.
Following the abduction, the kidnappers had released a video of the couple and demanded a ransom of N50 million. The victims, including the pregnant wife, appealed for help in raising the funds.

It was reported that the family could only gather about N7 million at the time. Mrs. Zainab had been released earlier after a ransom payment was made.
In related developments, the Edo State High Court, Criminal Court 2, last week remanded 52 youths linked to protests in Ekpoma at the Ubiaja Correctional Centre. The demonstrators, mainly students of Ambrose Alli University, had taken to the streets on Saturday, January 10, to protest the rising wave of kidnapping and insecurity in the Edo Central region.
