The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State has suspended its State Chairman, Godwin Williams, over alleged involvement in activities considered detrimental to the party.
The decision was taken by the party’s Transitional Leadership Team (TLT) following a petition accusing Williams of undermining party unity and progress. Williams, however, rejected the suspension, describing it as invalid.

The TLT meeting, presided over by party leader John Abdul in Keffi Local Government Area, led to the temporary suspension of Williams for 14 days, pending the outcome of an investigation by a Disciplinary Committee set up by the team.
A statement from ADC spokesman Idris Ojoko said Paul Ajeh, the former state secretary, was appointed Acting State Chairman, while Umar Babayaro will serve as Acting Secretary.

According to Ojoko, the allegations against Williams include:
Refusing to recognise the party’s National Working Committee under Senator David Mark.
Blocking integration of coalition members into ADC’s Nasarawa structure.
Reporting some party leaders to INEC, DSS, and the police, claiming they were impostors.

Creating parallel party structures at state, local government, and ward levels.
Interfering with the establishment of party offices and ongoing membership registration and revalidation exercises.
The Disciplinary Committee is chaired by Barrister Hassan Yakubu and includes Amina Zanwa, Mamman Sunday, Yunus Sidi, with Gaza Auta serving as secretary.

Reacting to the suspension, Williams insisted he remains the legitimate state chairman, saying, “I’m the one who should suspend them, not the other way around.” He questioned the legitimacy of the coalition members behind the suspension, claiming they had only joined the party in the last five or six months.
Williams further accused the group of trying to sabotage the ADC and support the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
He emphasised that those who suspended him have no standing in the party, insisting his tenure continues until officially expired.
