The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has rescued an 84-year-old man from a domestic well following a suspected suicide attempt at No. 35A, Fadeyemi Street, Pipeline, Aboru, in the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the agency’s Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, a distress call was received at exactly 10:09 am, prompting the immediate deployment of rescue personnel to the scene.

According to the statement, officers from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, supported by personnel from the Abesan Fire Station, arrived at the location at about 10:20 am and commenced rescue operations.
The victim was recovered alive from a well estimated to be about 140 feet deep.
“Preliminary observations suggest a suspected case of attempted suicide, as the well was adequately protected and securely covered,” the agency said.
The rescued man was subsequently handed over to his family for further care, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
“The victim was successfully recovered by the rescue team and handed over to family members for necessary attention. The exact cause of the incident is subject to further investigation,” the statement added.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reaffirmed its commitment to prompt emergency response and urged residents to report emergencies through appropriate channels.

The agency also recalled a similar incident in October 2025, when a 32-year-old woman was rescued alive after falling into an uncovered well in Ikorodu. She was reportedly depressed at the time and had fallen into the well while sitting on its edge.
