BREAKING: COURT NULLIFIES PDP NATIONAL CONVENTION IN IBADAN

A Federal High Court in Ibadan has annulled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in Oyo State on November 15, 2025, ruling it null and void.

The court also prohibited members of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) from presenting themselves as national officers of the party.

In delivering the judgment on Friday, the court affirmed that the Caretaker Committee, led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, remains the only legally recognized leadership of the PDP until a valid national convention is conducted.

The ruling represents a major development in the ongoing leadership struggle within the opposition party, which has been embroiled in months of legal and political battles over control of its national structure.

Reacting to the judgment, PDP National Publicity Secretary Comrade Ini Ememobong said the party would appeal the decision.

“We acknowledge the Federal High Court ruling, which declined to grant the mandamus order sought, noting that doing so would amount to sitting on appeal over courts of coordinate jurisdiction,” Ememobong stated.

He added: “Our legal team has been instructed to immediately file an appeal and take all necessary steps to defend our position. The Kabiru Turaki-led PDP, which emerged from the Ibadan convention, remains legally intact as we await the ruling of the appellate courts. We urge all members to stay committed and focused. The REBIRTH movement continues on course.”

The PDP has been caught in a fierce leadership battle following its poor showing in the 2023 general elections, with multiple factions claiming control of the national leadership.

Observers now question whether the party can overcome internal divisions and reposition itself ahead of the 2027 elections.
