ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY WELBY COMMENDS GOV SANI’S INTERFAITH HARMONY IN KADUNA

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, on Saturday received the Archbishop of Canterbury, His Grace Justin Welby, at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, describing the visit as an opportunity to reflect on the state’s growing peace and stability.

The courtesy visit followed the Archbishop’s engagement at Ahmadu Bello University and served as a platform to showcase Kaduna State’s strides in peacebuilding and interfaith cooperation.

Archbishop Welby recalled his first visit to Kaduna in 2002, a time when the state was plagued by ethno-religious violence and deep divisions. He noted that the current atmosphere of peace and unity marked a remarkable transformation.

He praised the improved stability across the state, adding that the visible progress in peace and cohesion influenced his decision to pay a visit to Governor Sani.

In his response, Governor Sani expressed appreciation to the Archbishop for the visit and his observations, describing them as an affirmation of the state government’s intentional peace-building strategy.

The governor explained what he described as the “Kaduna Peace Model,” an inclusive governance approach built on dialogue, justice, equity, and mutual respect.

According to him, the model has produced tangible results over the past two and a half years, particularly the absence of ethno-religious conflict in a state once known for recurring tensions.

He stressed that the progress was not coincidental but the outcome of deliberate leadership decisions and consistent engagement with communities across religious and ethnic lines.

Governor Sani further reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to strengthen unity and ensure that development reaches all parts of the state, noting that inclusive growth remains central to sustaining long-term peace.

He said the government has consistently prioritised dialogue over division, participation over exclusion, and trust over fear, with the aim of fostering shared purpose and social cohesion.

The governor assured that Kaduna State would continue to build on the gains recorded, focusing on deepening harmony, strengthening unity, and advancing collective progress for all residents.
