OSUN ASSEMBLY ACCUSES OYETOLA OF ILLEGAL CONTROL OF COUNCIL FUNDS, WARNS UBA

The Osun State House of Assembly has accused former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, of unlawfully directing the release of local government funds and meddling in council administration. The Assembly described these actions as a threat to democracy, the rule of law, and grassroots governance.

The allegations were made on Sunday during a press briefing by the Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, and shared on his official Facebook page.

Mr. Egbedun expressed concern that individuals whose local government elections were nullified by the courts, and whose tenure ended on 22 October 2025, are still occupying council secretariats and handling public finances.

According to the Speaker, these officials—affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC)—lack any legal mandate, with no recognition under the Constitution or existing court rulings.

“These individuals have no lawful authority. They are not recognised by law, by the courts, or by the Constitution. Their continued presence in Local Government Secretariats is illegal and must not be allowed to continue,” Mr. Egbedun said.

The Assembly further alleged, without providing evidence, that Minister Oyetola, who is also the nephew of President Bola Tinubu, had been issuing instructions regarding the disbursement of local government allocations despite lacking any constitutional or statutory authority.
