The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially appointed and sworn in former Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, Alhaji Rahman Owokoniran, as its South West Zonal Chairman. The ceremony was held under the authority of the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark.
Following the inauguration of Owokoniran’s zonal executive committee, ADC chieftain Mr. Coker Onita issued a statement on Tuesday rejecting claims of internal crisis in the South West region, describing them as baseless attempts to mislead members and the public.

“For clarity, Hon. Alhaji Rahman Akanni Owokoniran was duly inaugurated and sworn in as the South West Zonal Chairman of ADC by Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Bamidele Ajadi, with the full consent and approval of National Chairman Senator David Mark and the national leadership,” Onita stated.
The party emphasized that suggestions of disownment by the national leadership are false and deliberately intended to confuse stakeholders. Onita further accused the ruling APC and its sympathizers of spreading misinformation to create divisions and destabilize ADC in the South West, where the party is reportedly gaining grassroots support.

Onita also dismissed a statement from the “ADC Lagos State Stakeholders Forum,” labeling it as the work of a faceless group with intentions to undermine the party. “Anonymous accusations are acts of subversion, not accountability. If these individuals truly represent ADC stakeholders, they should openly state their names and positions,” he said.
The party reaffirmed its openness to constructive criticism, lawful debate, and internal engagement, while rejecting misinformation campaigns.

Concluding, ADC stressed that it remains united and focused on building a credible political alternative, confirming that the South West zonal leadership under Owokoniran is legitimate, recognized, and fully supported by the national leadership.
