The Kebbi State Police Command, working in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, has successfully thwarted a cattle-rustling operation by suspected Lakurawa bandits in Tungan Babu Lada village, Bunza Local Government Area.
The bandits invaded the village, shot and killed a 35-year-old resident, Usman Ferungu, and attempted to flee with rustled cattle. Their escape was intercepted by a joint security team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Kangiwa Division.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, the police confirmed that a gun battle ensued during the pursuit, resulting in the neutralisation of one suspected bandit.
“Four motorcycles believed to have been used by the criminals were recovered,” the statement read.
The operation disrupted the gang’s activities, prevented further attacks, and averted additional loss of lives or property in the area.

The Kebbi State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to public safety, stating that aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations will continue statewide under the proactive policing strategy of Commissioner of Police CP Umar Mohammed Hadeija.

The command urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, assuring the public of sustained efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of action in Kebbi State.

The incident highlights ongoing efforts to counter the activities of Lakurawa and other armed groups operating along border corridors in the North-West, where cattle rustling, kidnappings, and ambushes remain persistent threats despite intensified security operations.
