KANO ASSEMBLY DENIES DEPUTY GOV IMPEACHMENT RUMORS

The Kano State House of Assembly has dismissed media reports suggesting an attempt to impeach Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, describing the claims as “baseless and misleading.”

Public Relations Officer of the Assembly, Kamaluddeen Shawai, made the clarification while addressing journalists in Kano on Saturday.

He stated there is no motion or initiative before the House to remove the deputy governor.

“The reports circulating in some media outlets suggesting an attempt to impeach the Deputy Governor were intended to create unnecessary tension in the state.

“There is absolutely no motion or initiative within the House to remove the deputy governor.

“These reports are false and should be disregarded by the public. The deputy governor continues to serve in his capacity with full support from the House,” Shawai said.

He urged the public and media to verify information before dissemination, stressing the importance of accurate reporting in maintaining political stability.

The spokesperson added that the Assembly remains focused on its legislative duties and oversight functions rather than engaging in speculative political manoeuvres.

“Our priority is good governance and serving the people of Kano, not circulating rumours,” he emphasised.

The deputy governor has not publicly commented on the impeachment claims, but insiders within the state government confirmed he remains actively involved in official programmes and engagements.

The clarification follows recent political realignments in Kano, including Governor Abba Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on January 26, alongside 22 members of the State Assembly, eight House of Representatives members, and 44 local government chairmen.

Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ibrahim Waiya had earlier called on the deputy governor to resign for not following Governor Yusuf to the APC.

The Kano Assembly’s denial aims to quell speculation and maintain calm amid ongoing political developments in the state.
