PANIC AS KWARA RESIDENTS FLEE TO NIGER STATE AFTER DEADLY TERRORIST ATTACK

Hundreds of residents of Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have fled to neighbouring Niger State following last week’s brutal terrorist attack that reportedly claimed over 176 lives.

The assault, which began Tuesday evening and continued into Wednesday morning, forced entire families to abandon their homes with little or no belongings, leaving the community largely deserted.

A viral video circulating on social media shows displaced residents gathered by the roadside in Wawa town, Niger State. Several vehicles believed to have transported them from Kwara are parked nearby, while exhausted men, women, and children sit under temporary tents or directly on the ground.

ZulQharnain Shero Musa, Special Assistant on Media to the Kaiama Local Government Chairman, confirmed that Woro has been completely abandoned.

“The whole community has been deserted as of Saturday. Residents have absconded to neighbouring communities, including Niger State, Kaiama town, and some of those who escaped through the thick forest ended up in Baruten,” Musa said.

He added that security forces have since been deployed to the area following President Bola Tinubu’s directive.

“There is an army battalion currently stationed in the community as directed by President Bola Tinubu,” he stated.

Despite the military presence, many residents remain unwilling to return, citing ongoing fear of renewed attacks and uncertainty about their safety. Entire households continue to seek refuge in host communities across the border.

The mass displacement follows one of the deadliest single attacks recorded in Kwara State, with survivors describing hours of indiscriminate killings, arson, and abductions after the community rejected extremist preaching.
