KADUNA INSECURITY: BANDITS ABDUCT 7 RESIDENTS IN LATEST ATTACK, CITIZENS PROTEST.

Residents of Danhonu II community in New Millennium City, a suburb of Kaduna metropolis, staged a protest on Monday against recurring bandit attacks and kidnappings that have left the area in fear.

The demonstration followed the abduction of seven persons during a late-night raid on Sunday around 11:30 pm.

One protester, speaking anonymously, said the attackers—estimated at more than 15 and armed with AK-47 rifles—invaded the community, abducting residents and fleeing before security forces could respond.

“In the last month, more than four residents have been kidnapped here. Yesterday, no fewer than 15 bandits came with AK-47 rifles and abducted about five residents to an unknown destination,” the resident said.

Akoh Salifu, Chairman of the Danhonu II Landlords Association and leader of the protest, said residents could no longer endure the insecurity.

“We are here because we can no longer live in peace. The pressure from these repeated kidnapping incidents has become unbearable for us,” Salifu stated.

He revealed that some youths attempted to pursue the kidnappers into the bush after the attack but were unable to catch up.

“As law-abiding citizens, we decided to come to the police to formally register our grievances and cry out for urgent intervention to save our community,” he added.

Photos from the protest show angry residents marching to the police station, carrying placards and demanding immediate action.

Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson Mansir Hassan confirmed the incident, stating that police received distress calls on Sunday night and swiftly deployed personnel alongside soldiers.

“By the time security personnel arrived, the criminals had fled with the victims due to the poor road network leading to the community,” Hassan said.

He added that Commissioner of Police Rabiu Muhammad visited the area and met with community leaders.

The command is considering establishing a police outpost in Danhonu II to improve response times and deter future attacks.

The latest incident has heightened tension in Chikun Local Government Area, where residents say persistent kidnappings and banditry have disrupted daily life and economic activities.
