AMAECHI STORMS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY IN OPPOSITION TO ELECTRONIC RESULTS TRANSMISSION POLICY (VIDEO)

Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi on Tuesday morning joined protesters at the National Assembly complex in Abuja demanding the approval of real-time electronic transmission of election results from polling units.

The demonstrators are pressing the Senate to retain and strengthen provisions for mandatory live transmission in the ongoing Electoral Act Amendment Bill.

Amaechi’s participation drew significant attention as he marched alongside protesters chanting slogans in support of electoral transparency and credibility.

Security operatives, including personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other paramilitary agencies, were heavily deployed around the National Assembly to maintain order and prevent any breakdown of law.

A viral video shared shows Amaechi among the crowd as protesters voiced their demands outside the legislative complex.

The protest follows similar demonstrations led by former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi on Monday. Obi, who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was accompanied by activist Aisha Yesufu and other supporters.

Protesters argue that mandatory real-time transmission of results to INEC’s IReV portal is essential to prevent manipulation, build public trust, and ensure credible elections ahead of 2027.
