‘THEY WILL FACE THE FULL WRATH OF THE LAW’: CHIEF OF AIR STAFF SPEAKS ON FATE OF COUP PLOTTERS AGAINST TINUBU

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has condemned the recent foiled coup attempt against President Bola Tinubu’s government, describing it as “shameful, shocking, and wholly reprehensible.”

Reports indicate that over 40 military officers and civilians have been arrested in connection with the October 2025 coup plot, with families of the accused calling for leniency and fair trials.

Speaking during a strategic meeting with commanders at the Nigerian Air Force headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, Aneke emphasized that the military’s core duty is to support civilian authorities. He warned that any member of the Armed Forces involved in attempts to undermine or overthrow Nigeria’s democratic government will face the full force of the law.

“I unequivocally condemn recent revelations that certain individuals planned to subvert democracy and violently seize power,” Aneke said. “Such actions are shameful, shocking, and wholly reprehensible. Perpetrators will face the full wrath of the law. The Nigerian Air Force remains loyal to the Constitution and the democratically elected government of the day. Commanders must ensure unity, cohesion, and discipline within the ranks while curbing all unlawful activity.”

The Defence Headquarters had recently confirmed the attempted coup, following initial denials in October 2025. Those implicated are set to face court-martial according to military regulations.
