SHETTIMA HEADS TO ADDIS ABABA TO REPRESENT TINUBU AT 2026 AU SUMMIT

Vice-President Kashim Shettima departed Abuja on Thursday, February 12, 2026, for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will represent President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 African Union (AU) Summit.

The summit, themed “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” focuses on strengthening continental efforts toward sustainable water management, improved sanitation infrastructure, and the broader development objectives outlined in the AU’s Agenda 2063 framework.

While in Addis Ababa, Vice-President Shettima will participate in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of AU Heads of State and Government, as well as the 30th General Assembly scheduled for February 14 and 15.

In addition to the main sessions, he will engage in high-level side events and hold bilateral meetings with African political leaders and business figures to deepen Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnerships across the continent.

Shettima is accompanied by several cabinet ministers and senior government officials. He is expected to return to Nigeria upon completion of his official engagements in Addis Ababa.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported the development.
