Troops of 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have successfully rescued eight out of ten persons abducted by suspected terrorists during a wedding ceremony in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, when an unconfirmed number of gunmen, reportedly dressed in military camouflage, stormed the wedding venue and kidnapped the victims.

A credible source at Army Headquarters told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that troops positioned in an ambush along the Yankwada River line responded immediately upon receiving the distress call.
The troops advanced to the general area, made contact with the fleeing assailants at Garu Village in neighbouring Katsina State, and pursued them up to the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis before contact was broken.

“During the operation, eight of the abducted girls were successfully rescued and have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to track and rescue the remaining two victims,” the source said.
Operations in the general area continue to ensure the safe return of the two remaining victims and to prevent any further attacks in the region.

The rescue operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s rapid response capability in addressing banditry and kidnapping incidents across the North West. Further updates are expected as the search for the remaining victims intensifies.
