Pre-Ramadhan 1447AH Nuggets
Narrated ‘A’ishah:
“One of us (women) would miss some fasts in Ramadhan and she would not be able to make it up until Sha‘ban began, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not fast in any month as he fasted in Sha‘ban; he used to fast all of it, except a little, he used to fast all of it.”‘
Sunan Ibn Majah and Sahih according to Al-Albani (Sahih Ibn Majah and al-Irwaai)

In a similar narration collected by al-Bukhari, ‘A’ishah narrated:
Sometimes I missed some days of Ramadhan, but could not fast in lieu of them except in the month of Sha’ban.” Said Yahya, a sub-narrator, “She used to be busy serving the Prophet (ﷺ) .”
NOTE
1. Muslims who are religiously accountable, both men and women, are reminded of their obligation to make up any missed fasts from the previous Ramadhan (i.e. for 1446 AH) if they have not already done so. Fasting during Ramadhan and compensating for missed days are essential duties. It is impermissible to delay making up missed fasts until the next Ramadhan unless there is a valid excuse that persists throughout the year. If one fails to make up missed fasts before the following Ramadhan without a valid reason, such a person must repent and, according to the majority of scholars, including Malik, ash-Shafi’i, and Ahmad, provide a meal to a poor person for each missed day, based on narrations from Ibn ‘Abbas, Ibn ‘Umar, and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with them).

2. The scholars explain that when the hadith states the Prophet ﷺ fasted *“all of”* Sha‘ban, it does not necessarily mean every single day. Rather, it signifies that he fasted most of the month, sometimes fasting extensively and at other times leaving a few days, or fasting different portions of the month in different years. This shows that the Prophet ﷺ was consistent in observing fasting throughout Sha‘ban. The virtue of fasting abundantly in this month is further emphasized by the Sunnah, which teaches that deeds are presented to Allah in Sha‘ban, making it a highly recommended time for worship and spiritual preparation ahead of Ramadhan.
3. The hadith of ʿA’ishah (رضي الله عنها) also illustrates the flexibility and balance within the Shari’ah (i.e. Islamic law). She delayed making up missed Ramadhan fasts until Sha‘ban due to her duties toward the Prophet ﷺ, highlighting the permissibility of postponing makeup fasts as long as they are completed before the next Ramadhan, without any fidya. It also clarified that menstruating women are exempt from fasting but must make up the missed days later. Moreover, the practice of the Prophet’s wives shows the importance of prioritizing marital rights over voluntary worship, while still seizing appropriate opportunities, such as Sha‘ban, for fulfilling religious obligations.

O Allah! Allow us to witness (and benefit from) the month of Ramadhan. Keep us firm upon what is lawful, and distance us from all that You have forbidden. Forgive our shortcomings and accept our efforts. Indeed, You are All-Hearing, Ever-Responsive. Ãmeen
Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. We send peace and blessings upon our noble Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his family, his companions, and all who follow the path of righteousness.

Dear brothers and sisters in Islam, as we gather for Jumu‘ah on this blessed 11th day of Sha‘bān 1447 AH, we thank Allah for granting us life, faith, and another opportunity to seek His mercy. Sha‘bān is a sacred month of preparation — a month in which hearts are softened, deeds are raised, and believers renew themselves in anticipation of Ramaḍān.
Let us use these days to increase our du‘ā, our forgiveness, and our devotion.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Sha‘bān is a month people neglect, between Rajab and Ramaḍān, and it is a month in which deeds are raised to the Lord of the worlds.” Let our deeds be among those accepted.
O Allah, on this blessed Friday, forgive our sins, purify our hearts, and strengthen our īmān. Grant us sincerity in worship, patience in hardship, and gratitude in ease.
O Allah, elevate our prayers, heal the sick, provide for the needy, guide our youth, and unite our families upon righteousness.

O Allah, grant peace and stability to Nigeria and all Muslim lands.
Protect our communities from insecurity, hardship, and division.
Make our leaders just, compassionate, and guided by truth.
O Allah, allow us to reach Ramaḍān in good health and with hearts ready for repentance and renewal.
Fill our homes with barakah, our lives with purpose, and our akhirah with success.
Rabbanā ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanah, wa fil-ākhirati ḥasanah, waqinā ‘adhāban-nār.
Indeed Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and oppression.
Remember Allah and He will remember you. Be grateful to Him and He will increase you.
Wa aqimis-ṣalāh.
Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm.
All praise belongs to Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate.
We send peace and blessings upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his family, his companions, and all who follow his guidance until the Last Day.
Dear brothers and sisters, we gather today for Jumu‘ah on this blessed 11th day of Sha‘bān 1447 AH. Sha‘bān is a month of preparation, reflection, and sincere return to Allah before the arrival of Ramaḍān.
Allah reminds us in the Qur’an:
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلًا سَدِيدًا
“O you who believe! Fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.”
(Sūrah al-Aḥzāb 33:70)

This is a season to renew taqwā, to soften the heart, and to increase good deeds.
Allah says:
“Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient.”
(Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:153)
Whatever burdens we carry, whatever trials we face, Allah’s companionship is enough.
On this blessed Friday, let us raise our hands and hearts in du‘ā.
O Allah, forgive us and have mercy upon us. You are the Most Forgiving.
Allah says:
“Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves: do not despair of the mercy of Allah.”
(Sūrah az-Zumar 39:53)
O Allah, purify our hearts, accept our prayers, and make us among those whose deeds are raised in Sha‘bān in a state of sincerity.
O Allah, grant healing to the sick, relief to the distressed, provision to the poor, and guidance to our youth.
Allah says:
“Indeed, with hardship comes ease. Indeed, with hardship comes ease.”
(Sūrah ash-Sharḥ 94:5–6)
O Allah, bring ease to our nation Nigeria. Grant security, stability, and righteous leadership. Remove fear and hardship from our communities.
O Allah, unite the Ummah upon truth, and grant us the blessing of reaching Ramaḍān.
Allah says:
“Hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided.”
(Sūrah Āl ‘Imrān 3:103)

O Allah, make this Jumu‘ah a turning point for our souls. Fill our lives with barakah and our endings with goodness.
“Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
(Sūrah al-Baqarah 2:201)
Indeed Allah commands justice, excellence, and kindness.
Remember Allah and He will remember you.
Wa aqimis-ṣalāh.

As for those who believe and do good, We certainly never deny the reward of those who are best in deeds (Q18:30). May we be counted among those who believe, who do good & are best in deeds. Juma’at Mubarak
