The U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, David Metcalf, confirmed that Adewale is indicted on charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lynne A. Sitarski in Philadelphia following his extradition.

Authorities reported that Adewale was arrested in Nigeria on August 17, 2023, as part of a wider operation in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation targeting individuals suspected of engaging in sexual extortion schemes involving minors in the United States.

He was formally extradited to the U.S. on February 13, 2026, with support from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs and the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja. The FBI took him into custody immediately upon arrival.

Nigerian authorities played a key role in the extradition process, including the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Justice’s International Criminal Justice Cooperation Department, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

If convicted, Adewale could face substantial penalties under U.S. federal law. Prosecutors emphasised that the indictment constitutes allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
