LAGOS UNVEILS 64-DAY DIVERSION PLAN FOR LEKKI-AJAH ROAD REPAIR

Following the successful completion of rehabilitation on the Chevron to Admiralty Way stretch of the Lagos-bound carriageway, the Lagos State Government has released a 64-day traffic management plan to facilitate works on the Epe-bound carriageway of the Lekki–Ajah Expressway.

As part of the plan, the Epe-bound carriageway from Admiralty Way Junction to Jubilee Bridge, Ajah, will be fully closed to allow uninterrupted construction. Vehicular traffic will be diverted to the Lagos-bound carriageway, with lane allocation adjusted during peak periods.

  • Morning peak (5:00 am – 10:00 am): Two lanes for Lagos-bound traffic, one lane for Epe-bound traffic.

  • Evening/night peak (3:00 pm – 3:00 am): Two lanes for Epe-bound traffic, one lane for Lagos-bound traffic.

Motorists are advised to use the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road as an alternative route where feasible.

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other personnel will be deployed along the corridor, with a tow truck stationed on-site for emergencies. Partial closures and restricted flow will be enforced at strategic intersections, including Admiralty Way Junction, Maruwa, Freedom Way, Chisco, Jakande, Igbo-Efon, Chevron, Lekki Conservation Toll Plaza to VGC, and VGC to Jubilee Bridge.

Nighttime asphalt-laying operations will require full closure of all intersections for eight hours to ensure safety and quality.

Epe-bound carriageway phased rehabilitation schedule:

  • Lekki Admiralty Way Junction to Maruwa Intersection – 1,790m (7 days)

  • Maruwa to Freedom Way – 1,500m (6 days)

  • Freedom Way to Chisco – 970m (5 days)

  • Chisco to Jakande – 1,880m (9 days)

  • Jakande to Igbo-Efon – 1,570m (8 days)

  • Igbo-Efon to Chevron – 1,060m (6 days)

  • Chevron to Lekki Conservation Toll Plaza – 970m (5 days)

  • Lekki Conservation Toll Plaza to VGC U-Turn – 3,460m (13 days)

  • VGC U-Turn to Ajah Jubilee Bridge – 910m (5 days)

Rehabilitation on the Lagos-bound carriageway will continue in parallel, also executed in defined phases.

The government urges motorists and residents to cooperate with traffic management officials, adhere to diversion signage, and plan their journeys accordingly during the construction period.
