KANO ANTI-GRAFT AGENCY SEIZES VEHICLES FROM KWANKWASO’S SON, OTHERS DAYS AFTER GOV YUSUF’S MOVE TO APC

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has recovered official vehicles from five former commissioners who resigned from the state executive council.

The affected former officials are:

– Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umar (retd) – former Commissioner for Internal Security

– Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso – former Commissioner for Youth and Sports (son of Rabiu Kwankwaso)

– Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata – former Commissioner for Science and Technology

– Adamu Aliyu Kibiya – former Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs

– Nasiru Sani Garo – former Commissioner for Special Projects

The recovery operation was carried out by commission operatives on Thursday, February 27, 2026, following the former commissioners’ alleged refusal to return government property despite repeated demands.

Speaking to journalists after the exercise, the Chairman of the Commission, Sa’idu Yahaya, who personally led the operation, said the action followed formal complaints and notifications from the Office of the Secretary to the Kano State Government regarding alleged abuse of office and failure to return government assets upon resignation.

“Government assets are not personal property. Once an official leaves office, all government vehicles and assets in their custody must be returned immediately,” Yahaya stated.

He explained that the former commissioners were given multiple opportunities to comply voluntarily but refused, forcing the commission to seek and obtain a court order to recover the vehicles.

“So far, we have recovered five vehicles from the five commissioners. However, only two of the vehicles recovered are the exact official vehicles purchased by the government. The other three are not the original vehicles,” he revealed.

Yahaya alleged that some of the commissioners had sold the official vehicles shortly after leaving office.

“This is not about witch-hunting anyone. It is about protecting the resources of the people of Kano State. We will not tolerate any form of misconduct or unlawful retention of government property,” he emphasised.

He warned that the commission would continue to monitor public asset usage and would take similar action against any official found in breach of asset-return regulations.
