PDP MAY SUFFER MORE LOSSES AS ZAMFARA STAKEHOLDERS URGE GOV LAWAL TO JOIN APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faces the threat of further defections after stakeholders in Zamfara State began urging Governor Dauda Lawal to switch to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development emerged less than 24 hours after Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri formally defected from the PDP to the APC on Friday.

APC stalwart Iran Muhammad disclosed the move on Saturday via a post on X, stating that Governor Lawal held an emergency meeting with his cabinet and PDP leaders to discuss the state’s political future.

In an accompanying video, Muhammad claimed the meeting recommended that the governor join the APC.

“The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, PhD, held an emergency meeting with his cabinet and PDP stakeholders late last night to discuss the way forward. During the meeting, they recommended that he join the APC,” Muhammad wrote.

If Lawal defects, the PDP would be left with only two governors — Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo) — amid ongoing internal crises that have plagued the party in recent years.

The wave of defections follows prolonged leadership disputes within the PDP.

Separately, a former governorship candidate of the PDP in Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel David Ombugadu, has resigned from the party.

In a letter dated February 28, 2026, addressed to the PDP chairman of Ikka Wangibi Ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Ombugadu cited unresolved internal conflicts and the lingering leadership crisis as reasons for his exit.

The former two-term House of Representatives member expressed gratitude to the PDP for the platform it provided during his political career but indicated he would no longer remain in the party.
