4.4 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE ROCKS SOUTHERN IRAN AS US-ISRAELI STRIKES INTENSIFY

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck the Gerash region in southern Iran on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at a depth of 10 kilometres, adding to the chaos in a country already facing intense military bombardment from the United States and Israel.

The tremor hit amid ongoing airstrikes targeting Iranian military infrastructure, heightening fears among residents in an already volatile security environment.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or major structural damage from the earthquake itself.

However, the seismic event compounds humanitarian and emergency response challenges in a region destabilised by sustained aerial attacks.

Israeli forces announced “simultaneous strikes in Tehran and Beirut,” targeting Iranian military sites and Iran-backed Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.

The Israeli military stated it had struck missile launchers and air defence systems used against Israeli aircraft, vowing to continue operations against “live fire array sites, missile launchers, and ballistic missiles.”

Earlier, US Central Command reported destroying Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command and control facilities, Iranian air defence capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and military airfields.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes on US allies in the Gulf, including attacks on the US embassy in Riyadh (causing a minor fire) and earlier strikes near the US embassy in Kuwait.

Emergency agencies are monitoring for aftershocks and potential structural risks amid the dual threats of natural disaster and active warfare.
