The Nigeria Police Force has relieved Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin of his duties as Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), police sources told SaharaReporters. He has been replaced by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Okon Placid, who will now serve as the force’s new spokesperson.
“Hundeyin has been replaced by Okon Placid; the official announcement will be made later,” a source said.

As part of the restructuring, the police also established a New Media Office to strengthen digital communication and engagement. Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Ali Giwa has been appointed to lead this new unit, focusing on social media operations rather than serving as the official spokesperson.
The changes are part of ongoing efforts within the Nigeria Police Force to improve communication, media relations, and public engagement. ACP Hundeyin’s removal comes just six months after he assumed the FPRO role in September 2025, following the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu.

Earlier speculation suggested that CSP Giwa might become the new Force PRO. However, sources clarified that he will remain limited to social media management. Reports indicate attempts by some quarters to pressure the Inspector-General to appoint him, allegedly involving bloggers promoting narratives in his favor.
“By virtue of Giwa’s current position, he is close to bloggers, so he is trying to use them to force Disu to appoint him. That explains the reports you see online,” a top police source said.
Prior to his tenure as Force PRO, Hundeyin served as spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command.
