NIGERIAN POLICE SERVICE COMMISSION PROMOTES SEVEN AIGS TO DIG AFTER RETIREMENT OF FRANK MBA, OTHERS

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General (DIGs) to fill vacancies created by the recent retirement of senior officers in the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotions follow the exit of top police officials who served under the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

In a statement on Friday, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani said the elevations were based on merit, seniority, service records, and performance in written and oral examinations conducted at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The newly promoted officers include:

Zachariah Fera Achinyan, formerly AIG in charge of Zone 4, Makurdi

Zango Ibrahim Baba, formerly AIG, Department of Logistics and Supply

Isyaku Mohammed, formerly AIG, Armament, Force Headquarters, Abuja

Margaret Agebe Ochalla, formerly AIG, FCID Annex, Lagos

Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, formerly AIG, Police Accounts and Budget, Force Headquarters

Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, formerly AIG, Zone 15, Maiduguri

Umar Shehu Nadada, formerly AIG, Zone 14, Katsina

The PSC noted that the promotions were crucial to strengthening the leadership structure of the police force, especially following the retirement of eight DIGs who previously held key management positions.

Fayoade Adegoke, who was recently promoted to DIG, will also remain part of the Force Management Team.

Chairman of the PSC, Hashimu Argungu, congratulated the officers and urged them to justify the confidence placed in them by demonstrating professionalism, dedication, and commitment to national security. He also encouraged them to maintain a strong and cooperative relationship with the commission to ensure the continued growth of the police force.

Meanwhile, sources revealed that the eight retired DIGs—Frank Mba, Sadiq Idris Abubakar, Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi, Adebola Hamzat, Basil Okwuoma Idegwu, Mohammed Gumel, Dankwara Adamu Mohammed, and Funsho Adegboye—are reportedly considering legal action to challenge the circumstances surrounding their retirement.
