Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State paid a solidarity visit to former governor and senator, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. According to a statement by Yari’s media aide, Al-Mansoor Gusau, the leaders also shared the breaking of their Ramadan fast (Iftar) together after the Maghrib prayer.

During the visit, Governor Lawal also met with Yari’s mother, Hajiya Maimuna Abubakar Yari, popularly known as “Umma,” seeking her parental blessings.

Meanwhile, several of Governor Lawal’s loyalists have begun registering with the All Progressives Congress (APC) at their respective wards. Among those who have registered are the deputy governor, Mani Mummuni; the Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Nakwada; and the chief of staff, Mukhtar Lugga.

Yahaya Abubakar Yari, Chairman of Talata Mafara Local Government and ALGON Public Relations Officer, stated that council chairmen across Zamfara have pledged their support for the governor’s move. “We all joined Governor Lawal in APC and will mobilise support at the grassroots,” he said.

Political stakeholders within the party have welcomed the governor’s return to the APC, signalling a consolidation of support ahead of upcoming political activities in the state.
