Gunmen, suspected to be bandits, have killed three police officers and a local vigilante leader during a violent attack in Tordamisa, Taraba State, authorities have confirmed.

The Taraba State Police Command stated that the officers—Corporal Raphael Danjuma, Constable Ebenezer Daniel, and Police Constable Samuel Bawa—were ambushed while responding to a security situation in the area. They came under heavy gunfire shortly after arriving, triggering a fierce exchange in which the police were able to repel the attackers.

Constable Bawa was initially reported missing, but his body was later recovered in a nearby bush during a follow-up search operation. The attack also claimed the life of 60-year-old Nutsa Tyav, chairman of the local vigilante group in Tordamisa Village.

Reacting to the incident, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Betty Enepen Isokpan Otimenyin, described the slain officers and vigilante leader as courageous individuals who paid the ultimate price in service to their communities. She assured residents that security forces would intensify efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further violence in the area.
