The Nyesom Wike-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clarified that it will not support President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Jungudo Mohammed, the National Publicity Secretary of Wike’s faction, made the announcement on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief. He stressed that the PDP intends to field its own presidential candidate.

“We are not supporting President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general election. We will do everything to field our own candidate,” Mohammed said. He added, “I am appealing to Nigerians to please give us a little time between now and our primaries. All these rumours about us supporting APC or being an appendage of the APC will be cleared. Time will take care of these rumours and propaganda, which are aimed at discrediting either the PDP or the Honorable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.”
Interestingly, Mohammed’s statement appears to contradict Wike’s earlier stance. The FCT Minister has previously indicated his support for Tinubu’s re-election, even launching radio stations and donating buses in Rivers State branded with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda slogan.
The development highlights ongoing confusion and mixed signals within the PDP as the 2027 elections approach.
