President Bola Tinubu, members of his cabinet, 32 state governors, and over 8,400 delegates are set to gather in Abuja for the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention holding Friday and Saturday.
The event will also attract top party leaders from across the country, as new executives are expected to emerge and shape the party’s direction ahead of future elections.
Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, said the convention, themed “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects the party’s journey so far and its plans for the future. According to him, the gathering will serve as a platform for policy discussions, leadership elections, and strategic decision-making.
He noted that 8,453 delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory are expected to participate, describing the convention as both a moment of reflection and a step toward strengthening the party’s structure.

Also present at the media briefing were key government officials, including Hannatu Musawa and Festus Keyamo, alongside other party stakeholders.
Chairman of the convention’s central coordinating committee, Aminu Masari, expressed confidence in the party’s preparedness, stating that all committees have completed their assignments to ensure a smooth and credible exercise.
He also reaffirmed the party’s zoning arrangement, stressing that positions are allocated based on regional balance in line with federal character principles. He added that the party was not aware of any court case that could disrupt the process.

Despite this, some party members have raised concerns about exclusion from internal contests. One of them, Fubara Dagogo, has complained about being left out of a recent zonal congress, although he indicated a preference for resolving the matter through internal party mechanisms rather than the courts.
Meanwhile, authorities have taken steps to manage logistics and security around the event. Civil servants working within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja have been directed to work from home, as roads around the venue—Eagle Square—will be closed during the convention.
Hotels across the Federal Capital Territory have also recorded a surge in bookings, as delegates and party supporters arrive in large numbers for the high-profile political gathering.
The APC convention is expected to play a key role in shaping the party’s leadership structure and political strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
