The Lagos State Government has donated textbooks and digital learning devices to public secondary schools across the state under its Hope for Digital Education initiative. The unveiling ceremony took place on Wednesday at Alausa, reinforcing Lagos’ commitment to digital learning leadership in Nigeria.

Under the program, junior secondary school students received textbooks, while senior secondary school students were equipped with digital learning devices.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the initiative as a transformative step in public education, highlighting its alignment with the third pillar of his T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda, which focuses on education and technology as drivers of a 21st-century economy. He noted that the program also complements President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Hope Agenda’.

The state’s Commissioner for Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, was commended for successfully evolving the initiative from a pandemic-era emergency response into a structured, long-term educational reform.
According to the Lagos government, the program seeks to expand digital integration in classrooms while maintaining access to high-quality textbooks, which are essential for reinforcing core concepts and supporting performance in national and international examinations.

“The initiative has followed a clear trajectory of growth. From introducing learning devices in 2020 to rolling out smart devices in 2023, we now enter a new phase with the distribution of thousands of Hope Digital Learning Tablets to public secondary school students across Lagos State,” the statement read. The devices are powered by Living data-enabled SIMs and the Reducated platform to support secure connectivity and interactive learning.

More than 600,000 public secondary school students are expected to benefit from the program, which promotes inclusive, accessible learning while encouraging community engagement.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the initiative goes beyond technology, stating:
“We are enabling access, opportunity, and a future where every child can learn, grow, and succeed.”
