President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his condolences to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
She passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Cairo, where she had been receiving treatment for age-related health issues.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the late matriarch as a devoted mother whose children and grandchildren have made meaningful contributions to the country. He noted that her life and the values she passed on remain admirable.
Tinubu acknowledged the deep pain that comes with losing a mother, expressing empathy with El-Rufai during this difficult time.
“Nasir, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved mother,” the President said. “As someone who has also lost a mother, I understand the depth of your grief.”
He added that the loss of a mother is one of life’s most painful experiences and prayed that the memories of her love, wisdom, and guidance would bring comfort in the days ahead.
The President also prayed for her peaceful repose, asking that her good deeds be rewarded and that she be granted Aljannah Firdaus.
