The League of Northern Democrats (LND) has condemned the recent killings in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State, describing the violence as disturbing and unacceptable.
In a statement issued on April 1, 2026, and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ladan Salihu, the group called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.
Beyond the condemnation, the group also raised concerns over the alleged presence of an American national, Alex Berbir, at the scene shortly after the incident. LND described him as a suspected mercenary and questioned how he was able to access the area so quickly, as well as the purpose of his visit to Nigeria.

The group urged authorities to clarify when he entered the country and investigate reports about a bag he was seen carrying, suggesting it could be relevant to ongoing inquiries.
LND further alleged that Berbir had previously been seen in Jos engaging in actions capable of inciting religious tension. It pointed to videos circulating online in which he was seen holding the Qur’an while allegedly misrepresenting its teachings in a way that could provoke hostility.

The organisation also criticised his social media posts, accusing him of making unverified claims about casualties and issuing statements directed at the President, warning that such actions could worsen tensions.
Reaffirming its stance, LND stressed that Nigeria’s peace and sovereignty must be protected from both internal and external threats. It cautioned against misinformation and provocative behaviour, noting that they pose serious risks to national unity.
The group called on security and immigration authorities to urgently investigate the matter, determine if any laws were violated, and take appropriate action where necessary. It also emphasised the need for vigilance to safeguard the country’s stability.
