President Bola Tinubu has assured residents of Plateau State that the Federal Government will deploy an AI-powered surveillance system to strengthen security across the state.
During a visit to Jos following the March 29 attacks in Angwan Rukuba, the President announced plans to install over 5,000 digital cameras to help security agencies identify and track criminal activities in real time.
He directed key security officials, including Defence Chief Christopher Musa and Inspector-General of Police Olutunji Disu, to ensure those responsible for the killings are brought to justice.

Tinubu expressed sympathy with victims’ families, noting that no compensation can replace lost lives, while promising stronger efforts to prevent a recurrence of such violence.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang described the incident as a setback but maintained confidence in ongoing security interventions. He also commended federal support, including the approval of 1,000 forest guards to reinforce local security.
Several stakeholders, including former governors like Jonah Jang and Simon Lalong, called for deeper collaboration among political leaders and traditional rulers, stressing that lasting peace must come from within the state.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticised the President’s visit, describing it as inadequate and detached from the realities faced by affected communities.
Other organisations, including the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution and the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, condemned the killings and called for thorough investigations, restraint, and stronger protection of lives.
The situation has also affected daily life in the state. The University of Jos ordered students to vacate hostels due to rising insecurity, while authorities continue to urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
As concerns grow, many voices across the country are demanding not just condolences, but concrete and sustained action to end the cycle of violence and restore lasting peace in Plateau State.
