The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has stated that terrorists in North-East Nigeria will not face execution but will be offered an opportunity to repent, drawing a parallel with the biblical prodigal son.

Speaking at the Armed Forces inaugural lecture for the Joint Doctrine and Warfare Centre (JDWC) in Abuja, Gen Oluyede emphasized that most terrorists are Nigerian citizens who deserve a chance to reintegrate into society.

He explained that voluntary repentance is more effective than extreme measures, stressing that the Safe Corridor programme is designed to provide a structured path for rehabilitation rather than simply punishing offenders.

Gen Oluyede also urged lawmakers to appreciate the importance of rehabilitation, noting that the Defence Headquarters fully manages the programme.
