An autopsy has confirmed the cause of death of 22-year-old Afro-fuji singer Afeez Adesina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, bringing clarity to the controversy that followed his sudden passing in January.
The fast-rising artiste, known for blending traditional Yoruba Fuji with modern Afrobeats, died on January 17, 2026. His death had sparked widespread speculation, especially after videos circulated online showing his body being transported to a mortuary.

At the time, an associate had claimed the singer was battling a private health condition, while family members later revealed he had been dealing with a long-term illness that sometimes caused seizures. His mother also said they had explored both medical and traditional treatments in search of a solution.
However, the autopsy report has now provided a clearer picture. According to police authorities, toxicology results revealed harmful levels of tramadol and methamphetamine in his system. Medical experts concluded that he died from aspiration pneumonitis caused by ingesting these substances.

Following the incident, the Ogun State Police Command launched an investigation and arrested a suspect linked to the case. The matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section, while the case file was also sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
Destiny Boy rose to fame in 2019 after his Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song “If” went viral. He went on to build a strong fan base with covers of songs by top Nigerian artistes like Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor, alongside his own releases such as Lamba, One Transaction, and Gbese.
He is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their child, born in November 2024.
The release of the autopsy report has sparked fresh reactions online, with many calling attention to the dangers of substance abuse while others continue to question the circumstances surrounding his death.
