INSECURITY: ‘NIGERIA SHALL PREVAIL,’ SHETTIMA ASSURES NIGERIANS AT NATIONAL POLICE DAY CELEBRATION

Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured Nigerians that the country will overcome its security challenges, expressing confidence that ongoing reforms and collective efforts will restore stability.

Speaking at the 2026 National Police Day Grand Parade in Abuja, Shettima said Nigeria remains resilient despite the difficulties ahead. According to him, the nation is not lost, as long as its institutions continue to respond and citizens remain committed to reform.

“The road ahead may be long, but this nation is not stranded. So long as duty answers when distress calls, and we continue to choose reform, Nigeria shall prevail,” he said.

He described the celebration as more than a ceremony, calling it a renewed national commitment to build a stronger and more accountable Nigeria Police Force. He added that the goal is to create a system where every Nigerian feels safe, respected, and heard.

The Vice President emphasised that security cannot be left to the police alone, urging citizens, community leaders, and institutions to actively support law enforcement agencies.

“The safety of a nation cannot be outsourced to uniforms alone,” he said. “When citizens and law enforcement stand on opposite sides, insecurity thrives.”

He called for stronger collaboration between the police and the public, stressing that trust and partnership are essential for effective policing in a democratic society.

Shettima also charged police leadership and officers to uphold integrity, discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties. He urged them to let their actions reflect the honour of the uniform and inspire confidence among citizens.

“To the leadership of the Force, remain resolute in your commitment to reform. Let your conduct inspire trust and your service bring pride to the nation,” he added.

The event brought together top government officials, security chiefs, and officers from across the country, highlighting the importance of unity in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.
