OLAKUNLE WILLIAMS: THE VISIONARY BILLIONAIRE DISRUPTING AFRICA’S ENERGY SECTOR

Olakunle Williams has quietly built a reputation as one of Africa’s most influential figures in the energy sector, earning recognition as an African Energy Icon and a visionary silent billionaire.

As Founder and President of Tetracore Energy Group, Williams has grown the company rapidly, with its value estimated in the hundreds of millions and, by some accounts, crossing into the billion-dollar range within just five years.

Williams started his career in law and tax advisory, gaining a structured understanding of regulatory and fiscal frameworks, before transitioning into Nigeria’s gas sector. Focusing on gas commercialization and infrastructure, he positioned himself strategically across the gas value chain, setting the stage for Tetracore’s rapid growth. Today, the company manages one of the largest gas trading portfolios in Nigeria, supplying over 90MMscfd to industrial users and supporting more than 300MW of embedded and industrial power generation, reducing diesel dependency and improving energy efficiency.

Tetracore’s operations are fully integrated, spanning gas sourcing, trading, compression, distribution, logistics, and power generation. The company has also expanded into compressed natural gas (CNG) and piped gas systems, deploying AutoGas infrastructure across key industrial corridors in Nigeria, including Uwusan, Atakobo, Ibese, and Ogere. Its Benin City gate system, delivering 45MMscfd, supplies one of the largest industrial clusters in the South-South region, promoting cleaner and more reliable energy for manufacturing.

Regionally, Tetracore has introduced innovative virtual pipeline solutions in Ghana, enabling flexible gas supply to previously underserved areas and contributing to cross-border energy integration in West Africa. The company is also moving into gas-based industrial production with planned Gas-to-Liquids (GTL) and urea facilities, reducing import dependency while creating new revenue streams.

In power and infrastructure, Tetracore is developing the Atakabo Independent Power Plant (IPP) and a data centre along the Atakabo–Ijebu Ode industrial corridor. These projects ensure stable electricity for industrial clusters while supporting digital infrastructure and industrial operations.

Tetracore’s extensive piped and virtual gas networks, including the UTESI Pipeline and the Ikoyi–Victoria Island–Lekki Virtual Pipeline, now span over 20 kilometers, supplying numerous manufacturing and commercial hubs and reinforcing national energy security while accelerating the transition to cleaner energy.

Williams’ achievements have earned him several accolades, including the 2025 Energy Icon of the Year Award, the Nigeria Domestic Gas Ambassador Award, and recognition as the Innovative Gas Company of the Year. He also serves as Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Gas Distribution, contributing to policy discussions and industry coordination in Nigeria.

Within five years, Williams has built a diversified and cross-border energy empire spanning gas, power, and industrial production. His focus on execution, infrastructure development, and long-term strategic positioning continues to define his influence in Africa’s energy landscape.

Through Tetracore Energy Group, Olakunle Williams is shaping the future of energy in West Africa, delivering reliable, cleaner energy, supporting industrial growth, and driving regional integration across the sector.
