24 KILLED, CHURCH, MOSQUE RAZED IN KEBBI ATTACK — CATHOLIC DIOCESE

Suspected armed men have attacked a poultry farm in Igushi community, near Akure, Ondo State, killing a woman and her daughter while also abducting three other workers.

The incident happened on Thursday and has left residents of the area in shock as insecurity continues to raise concerns in parts of the state.

According to community sources, the attackers stormed the farm by scaling the fence and initially attempted to kidnap workers before opening fire, killing the farm owner and her daughter on the spot. They then forced three workers away from the scene.

A resident who spoke anonymously said the attackers were about five in number and operated quickly before fleeing the area.

“We later discovered that the woman and her daughter had been killed,” the source said. “We immediately alerted the police and Amotekun, and they responded to the scene. Some of the kidnapped victims were later rescued,” he added.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the attack, describing it as tragic and unacceptable. Police spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said two people were confirmed dead, while security operatives have launched efforts to track down the attackers and rescue those still missing.

He added that tactical teams have been deployed to the area and assured residents that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

Security agencies, including the police and Amotekun Corps, have intensified surveillance in the area as investigations continue.

The incident adds to growing concerns over recent attacks and abductions in parts of Ondo State, especially in rural communities around Akure, where residents have repeatedly called for stronger security presence.
