TERRORISTS INVADE KWARA COMMUNITY, KILL FIVE FOREST GUARDS, INCLUDING COMMANDER, BURN SECURITY VEHICLES

Suspected Boko Haram fighters have launched a deadly midnight attack on Nuku community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing at least five forest guards and destroying security equipment.

The early morning assault, which occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, has left residents in fear and heightened concerns over the worsening security situation in the area.

According to local sources, the attackers stormed the community under the cover of darkness, targeting members of the forest guard unit—a security initiative introduced to help combat rising insecurity.

A resident described the attack as sudden and devastating.

“There were casualties. At least five forest guards were killed. Their motorcycles were burnt completely, and patrol vehicles were also set on fire,” he said.

The gunmen reportedly operated for some time without resistance, catching the operatives off guard.

“The attack happened when people were still asleep. Before any help could arrive, they had already carried out the destruction,” the source added.

It was also gathered that the commander of the forest guard unit in Nuku was among those killed, a development residents say has significantly weakened local security efforts.

Another resident, who spoke anonymously due to safety concerns, said the incident has left the community deeply shaken.

“We are living in fear. If armed security personnel can be attacked and killed like this, then ordinary people are completely vulnerable,” the source said.

The attack comes amid rising tension in the area, especially following recent reports and videos showing abducted residents from nearby communities pleading for help.

Residents are now calling on both the state and federal governments to urgently reinforce security in the area.

“We need immediate intervention. The situation is getting out of control,” another source said.

During the attack, several operational assets were destroyed, including multiple motorcycles used by the forest guards, as well as patrol vehicles believed to belong to security agencies.

The incident adds to growing concerns about the spread of insurgent activities beyond traditional conflict zones, further underscoring the need for stronger and more coordinated security measures.
