*The Book of Drinks – Kitab al-Ashriba … (contd.)*

Narrated `A’ishah:

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to like sweet edible things (syrup, etc.) and honey.

Sahih al-Bukhari 5614

*NOTE 📝*

1. al-Hafidh Ibn Hajar in his commentary of this hadith discussed the meaning of “sweets” (halwaa) and honey, noting that the term can be pronounced in two ways and broadly refers to anything sweet, whether naturally occurring or prepared. He mentioned that scholars differed slightly in definition; some limited it to foods made through preparation, while others included fruits. In this context, the narration affirms that the Prophet ﷺ loved sweets and honey, placing them among the wholesome and lawful foods (tayyibaat) that Allah has permitted. This indicates that enjoying pleasant and lawful foods is acceptable within Islam. – Fathul Baari, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani

2. Ibn Hajar further clarified that the Prophet’s ﷺ love for such foods was moderate and natural, not driven by excessive desire or indulgence. He partook of them when available, showing appreciation without attachment. From this, scholars derive the permissibility of preparing and eating variety of foods, countering the view of some people of zuhd (people of self denial or ascetics) who discouraged eating anything beyond simple, naturally sweet items. Their restraint was more about humility and prioritizing the Hereafter, not a prohibition. – Fathul Baari, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani

3. Finally, al-Hafidh also touched on what specific sweets the Prophet ﷺ may have preferred, mentioning reports such as mixtures of dates and butter or other simple sweet preparations. He refuted claims that his “sweet” was merely honey mixed with water, affirming instead that various types of pleasant foods fall under this category. – Fathul Baari, Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani

*O Allah, all perfect praise is Yours, keep us firm upon what is lawful, and distance us from all that You have forbidden. Forgive our shortcomings and accept our efforts. Indeed, You are All-Hearing, Ever-Responsive. Ãmeen*

Jumu’ah Mubarak — 22nd Shawwal 1447AH

On this blessed day of Jumu’ah, we raise our hands and hearts to Allah, seeking His mercy, peace, and divine intervention in our lives and our nation.

Allahumma ij‘al hādhā al-yawm farajan likulli mahmūm, wa shifā’an likulli marīḍ, wa raḥmatan likulli mayyit, wa istijābatan likulli du‘ā’

(O Allah, make this day a relief for every distressed soul, healing for every sick person, mercy for the departed, and acceptance for every prayer.)

Ya Allah, bring peace into our hearts, stability to our nation, and unity among our people. Remove fear, hardship, and uncertainty from our land.

Allahumma aṣliḥ aḥwālanā wa aḥwāla bilādinā, waj‘alhā dāra amnin wa salām

(O Allah, rectify our affairs and the affairs of our nation, and make it a place of safety and peace.)

Grant us barakah in our businesses, success in our efforts, and ease in our struggles. Protect our families, guide our children, and strengthen our faith.

Rabbana ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanah wa fil-ākhirati ḥasanah wa qinā ‘adhāban-nār

(Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.)

Forgive our sins—those we know and those we do not know. Replace our worries with peace, our ضعف with strength, and our trials with elevation.

May Allah grant us good health, long life upon righteousness, and a beautiful end (ḥusn al-khātimah).
