JOS UNREST: HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PANEL TO HOLD PEACE DIALOGUE TODAY

The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on Security has announced plans to convene a broad stakeholder dialogue aimed at addressing the ongoing security challenges in Plateau State.

The initiative comes in response to recent violent incidents in Jos, the state capital, where attacks by armed groups and subsequent reprisals have heightened tensions and raised concerns over stability in the region.

According to a public notice issued by the committee chairman, Wale Hammed, the meeting will bring together a wide range of participants, including government officials, traditional rulers, security agencies, civil society organisations, religious leaders, academics, international partners, and members of the public.

The one-day conference is designed as a platform for inclusive dialogue focused on identifying the root causes of insecurity in Plateau State and developing practical, long-term solutions.

The event is themed “Restoring Stability and Unity: A Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Security in Plateau State and Beyond,” and aims to encourage open discussions, shared experiences, and collaborative strategies to promote peace and unity.

The committee stated that the dialogue will serve as an opportunity for stakeholders to contribute ideas that could strengthen security coordination and foster lasting stability in the state and surrounding regions.

At the end of the session, a communique outlining key resolutions and recommendations is expected to be released.
