YILWATDA: APC IN GOOD STANDING

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that it is not worried about the 2027 general elections, insisting that the ruling party remains strong, united, and well-positioned to maintain power.

The party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, dismissed claims that the APC could face internal collapse due to its expanding membership, stressing that the party has successfully managed its size and competing interests.

Speaking during a media chat, Yilwatda said the APC remains dominant across key regions, particularly in the North-West, where he claimed the party’s political structures are intact and strengthening ahead of the next elections.

He cited developments in states such as Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, Katsina, and Zamfara, arguing that the party’s influence remains strong across major voting blocs in the region.

According to him, opposition narratives about the party’s instability are largely political distractions and do not reflect realities on the ground.

He further stated that the APC operates a strong internal conflict resolution system, which has helped it manage diverse interests among governors, lawmakers, and party members without breakdown.

Yilwatda also clarified that the APC constitution does not provide for automatic tickets, adding that candidates for elections will emerge through established primary processes guided by both the party constitution and electoral laws.

He dismissed speculation about plans to relocate the Federal Capital Territory from Abuja to Lagos, describing such claims as false and politically motivated.

On allegations that the ruling party is responsible for crises in opposition parties, he said the APC should not be blamed for the internal challenges of other political organisations.

The APC National Secretary, Dr. Ajibola Basiru, also backed the chairman’s position, stating that most political parties in the country are stable and that internal democracy must be respected by all political actors.

He further noted that the government remains focused on governance and security, adding that hundreds of suspects linked to insecurity have recently been prosecuted.

The APC leadership expressed confidence that its performance and national spread will secure victory in the 2027 elections.
