The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a security alert over a suspected plan by armed bandits to escalate the abduction of farmers in parts of Kwara State.

The warning was directed to the state police command in Ilorin, drawing attention to growing threats in farming settlements around Lema, Ndeji, and Gbugbu communities in Edu Local Government Area.
According to intelligence reports, the planned attacks are believed to be a response to ongoing military operations that have disrupted bandit activities and other criminal networks in the region.

Security sources indicated that the bandits aim to target farmers in order to force them to abandon their farmlands, potentially affecting agricultural activities in the affected communities.

Authorities have been advised to strengthen security presence in vulnerable areas to prevent possible attacks and ensure the safety of residents.

Kwara State has witnessed a surge in insecurity in 2026, with increasing incidents of violence, killings, and coordinated attacks across several communities. The northern parts of the state, particularly Kaiama and Baruten, have been heavily affected, while Ilorin has remained relatively stable.
