INTERVENE IN EDO APC LEADERSHIP CRISIS, DIASPORA GROUP URGES TINUBU

A support group within the All Progressives Congress has called on President Bola Tinubu and the party’s national leadership to urgently step into an escalating leadership dispute in Edo State, warning that the crisis could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

In an open letter dated April 21, 2026, and addressed to the President, the National Working Committee, National Executive Committee, and Board of Trustees, the APC Diaspora Media Group, Edo State Chapter, expressed concern over growing internal divisions within the party in the state.

The group, which said it has over 1,800 members across different countries, warned that unresolved tensions could undermine unity and electoral strength if not addressed quickly.

At the centre of the dispute is the Edo State APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, whose recent remarks allegedly triggered outrage within the party structure.

The group cited a statement attributed to him in which he reportedly said the party would not “give a ticket to serial losers,” a comment widely interpreted as being directed at former governorship candidate Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Describing the remark as disrespectful, the group said it amounted to an attack on party unity and violated the principles of discipline and mutual respect expected of leaders.

It also accused the chairman of previously making unguarded comments against senior party figures, including former National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole and Minister Abubakar Momoh, alleging a pattern of divisive conduct.

The group further raised concerns about alleged threats directed at youths and reports of individuals being declared persona non grata, warning that such actions could heighten political tensions in the state.

It said leadership should promote inclusiveness and cohesion, arguing that the current situation in Edo APC is marked by division, intimidation, and internal conflict.

The group passed a vote of no confidence in the state chairman and called for his immediate suspension pending investigation.

It also accused the leadership of imposing candidates across local government areas and failing to build consensus among stakeholders, describing the approach as authoritarian and harmful to party unity.

The group urged the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress to intervene swiftly and restore order, discipline, and unity in the state chapter.

However, Jarret Tenebe dismissed the group as faceless and denied targeting any individual, saying his comments in a media interview were not directed at anyone in particular.
