IRAN SAYS US NAVAL BLOCKADE HAS LITTLE IMPACT ON FOOD SUPPLY

Iran’s Agriculture Minister, Gholamreza Nouri, has said that a United States naval blockade has had minimal impact on the country’s supply of essential goods, insisting that Iran remains largely self-sufficient in food production.

Speaking on Tuesday, he explained that the country’s domestic output and access to multiple land borders have helped maintain stable supply chains despite the restrictions.

He noted that around 85 percent of Iran’s agricultural products and basic food items are produced locally, arguing that this level of domestic production ensures strong national food security, according to the official IRNA.

The minister added that Iran can still import goods through alternative routes due to its geographical size and access to several neighbouring countries.

His comments come after the United States imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports and coastal waters on April 13, shortly after a ceasefire was announced in the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

The Iranian government has strongly criticised the blockade, describing it as a violation of the ceasefire agreement.

Despite the tensions, the agriculture minister maintained that the country’s food supply system remains stable and largely insulated from external pressure.
