The Katsina State Congress Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected a reported state congress conducted by some party members, describing it as illegal and not in line with the party’s constitution.

The committee chairman, Atiku Abubakar-Saleh, made this known on Tuesday in Katsina while reacting to questions from journalists about the ongoing congress activities within the party.
He explained that the committee was properly set up by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to organize credible and transparent congresses across the state, stressing that it remains the only body officially recognised to carry out the exercise.

Abubakar-Saleh noted that, following a recent court judgment allowing preparations to proceed, the committee had scheduled ward and local government congresses for Wednesday, while the state congress is set for Thursday.
He also said the NWC had approved relevant committees, including a screening committee led by Dr Sulaiman Maiyawo, to ensure full compliance with party rules and due process.

According to him, any congress or gathering organised outside these approved structures is invalid and carries no legal or constitutional weight. He described such actions as attempts to weaken party unity and disrupt internal democratic processes.
The committee chairman urged party members, stakeholders, and the public to ignore unauthorised activities and instead support the official congress timetable.

He also called on security agencies to remain alert and prevent any disruptions that could arise from parallel or illegal gatherings.
Abubakar-Saleh reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to conducting a peaceful, transparent, and credible congress in line with directives from the party’s national leadership.
