Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has dissolved the Chidi Odinkalu-led Governing Council of the state-owned Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University and approved a new council.

The governor appointed Professor Peter Onwualu as Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of the university. Onwualu, a Professor of Agricultural Engineering, is currently the Vice-Chancellor of the African University of Science and Technology, Abuja, and a former Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council.
Other members of the reconstituted council are Chief Christopher Ndubuisi, HRH Igwe Chidiume Oranu, Professor Josephat O. Ogbuagu, and retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Sir Chris Ezike.
Onwualu, a distinguished engineer and award-winning administrator, has made significant contributions to the development of agricultural and materials engineering in Nigeria. He brings extensive experience across academia and public service to his new role.

In a statement, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, noted that Onwualu has held several key positions in reputable institutions, including serving as a Visiting Professor at the National Universities Commission and Co-Centre Leader of the World Bank-funded Pan African Materials Institute.

According to the statement, Onwualu has authored over 200 publications and holds 10 patents. He has also received awards from more than 70 organisations and is a fellow of 12 scientific and professional bodies
