A coalition of civil society organisations in northern Nigeria has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the controversy surrounding the delayed assumption of office by the newly appointed Chairman of the Military Pension Board, retired Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu.

The groups, led by the Arewa Renaissance Movement (ARM), said their position aligns with an earlier call by the Security and Public Affairs Analysts Forum, which urged the presidency to ensure the appointee is allowed to immediately take up his duties.
Speaking on behalf of ARM, coordinator Abba Umar said the group’s support was based on the credibility of the analysts’ forum and its national outlook, stressing that the issue goes beyond individual interests.

He questioned why the newly appointed chairman had not been allowed to resume office despite his appointment being part of a broader set of federal appointments approved in December.
Umar expressed concern that the situation could be interpreted as a challenge to presidential authority, warning that failure to resolve it could set a negative precedent for governance and constitutional order.

He further argued that the authority of the President as Commander-in-Chief must be respected across all government institutions, including the military, noting that presidential appointments should be implemented without obstruction.

Drawing comparisons with past governance situations, he referenced previous institutional disputes, insisting that adherence to presidential directives is essential for maintaining administrative order.
Umar also urged the federal government to address the matter decisively while expressing support for ongoing reforms within the security sector.
