President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the National Assembly to consider and approve a bill seeking the repeal and re-enactment of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund law.

In a letter sent to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and read during plenary, the president explained that the proposed amendment is intended to strengthen the legal and operational structure of the fund.

The Nigeria Police Trust Fund was originally established to support the training, welfare, and equipment needs of the Nigeria Police Force. The new proposal aims to improve how the fund is managed and ensure it delivers more effectively on its mandate.

According to the president, the revision is necessary due to evolving security challenges in the country and is expected to enhance accountability, efficiency, and sustainability within the system. He also stressed that better funding and improved training would help boost the overall capacity of the police force.
Lawmakers have been urged to give the bill accelerated attention in order to support ongoing efforts to strengthen national security and improve policing standards.
