A group of Ghanaian youths, under the Concerned Youth Alliance, staged a protest in Accra over illegal migration and what they described as the increasing presence of foreigners, especially Nigerians, in the country.
The protest took place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Obra Spot, a well-known gathering point in the city.
Members of the group said they are worried about rising insecurity and unemployment, claiming that some foreign nationals are taking up jobs meant for Ghanaians. During the protest, emotions ran high, and one of the speakers made strong allegations against Nigerians, accusing them of crimes such as fraud and ritual activities. She also urged Ghanaian women to be cautious and find other ways to earn a living, alleging that they were being used in ways that harm the country.

Tensions between some Ghanaians and Nigerians have been building for a while. Back in July 2025, similar protests were held, with demonstrators making accusations ranging from prostitution to ritual killings. Videos from that period showed crowds carrying placards with messages calling for Nigerians to leave and raising concerns about crime and safety.
In response to the growing tension, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu visited Ghana to help calm the situation. During a joint press briefing, she called for peace and assured the public that both Nigerian and Ghanaian authorities were working together to address the concerns.
She explained that viral videos circulating online had created panic, which prompted her visit to assess the situation firsthand. However, she noted that, contrary to what was being portrayed online, there were no widespread signs of unrest such as ongoing street protests or calls for mass deportation of Nigerians.
