MORAL RECKONING: EZEKWESILI CHALLENGES NIGERIAN CHURCHES TO ABANDON WEALTH CULTURE, REFOCUS ON CORE MISSION

Former Minister of Finance, Oby Ezekwesili, has urged the church to shift its focus away from material displays and place greater emphasis on its core message of salvation.

She made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja during the Jerry Eze Foundation Business Grant Award Ceremony.

Ezekwesili warned that the message of the church should not be centered on possessions or wealth, but on spiritual depth and purpose.

According to her, it is concerning when attention is placed on material achievements such as cars, houses, and luxury lifestyles, rather than the deeper message of faith and salvation.

She stressed that while material resources may be useful for carrying out religious work, they should not become the central focus of the church’s message.

Ezekwesili called on religious institutions to deepen their teachings and return to core spiritual values, noting that true purpose lies beyond material accumulation.

She emphasized that the essence of the gospel should inspire spiritual growth and transformation rather than competition over wealth and status.
