Israel’s relationship with the United Arab Emirates appears to have entered a new phase following the recent conflict involving Iran, with both countries drawing closer in ways that would have seemed unlikely just a few years ago.
At the height of the war, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly approved a highly sensitive move—deploying Israel’s Iron Dome to the UAE, along with personnel to operate it. The decision followed direct communication with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, highlighting a deep level of trust and coordination between the two nations.
The deployment marked a historic first: Israel stationing one of its most advanced defense systems, and troops, inside an Arab country. It also underscored how far relations have evolved since both nations signed the Abraham Accords in 2020.
In the aftermath of the conflict, the UAE has openly expressed disappointment with some of its traditional regional allies, particularly over their response during the war. Emirati officials have suggested that future partnerships may lean more toward countries that offered support—such as Israel, the United States, France, and the United Kingdom.
This shift has been visible in recent diplomatic and economic decisions. The UAE’s move to exit OPEC after nearly 60 years, for instance, has been interpreted by some analysts as a sign of growing independence from traditional Gulf alliances.
For Israel, the situation presents a strategic opportunity. Officials say cooperation between the two countries—especially in security and intelligence—has reached unprecedented levels, driven by what they describe as a shared sense of threat and mutual interests.
Still, the relationship is not without limits. Israeli sources acknowledge that while support has increased, resources like additional Iron Dome systems remain constrained, particularly given Israel’s own security demands.
Beyond defense, ties between the two nations are expanding across multiple sectors, including trade, tourism, and technology. Analysts say the UAE is increasingly positioning itself as a global player with alliances that extend beyond its immediate region.
While it remains unclear how far this realignment will go, one thing is certain: the recent conflict has accelerated a shift that is reshaping political and strategic relationships in the Middle East.
